Friday is the last chance this year to enjoy the First Fridays in downtown Mount Vernon.

The popular street festival returned this year after it was cut short in 2020 due to COVID-19.

This Friday’s event features music by Black Gravy and a performance by MTVarts beginning at 7:15 p.m. on the Main Stage on Gambier Street along the South Main Plaza.

Side Effects will perform on the Flappers Bar & Grille secondary stage at the intersection of West High Street and Public Square.

“The BAM! Activity Zone, presented by Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Concepts in Community Living and Mount Vernon Nazarene University Athletics, will feature family-friendly activities for all ages and abilities,” said a news release from Main Street Mount Vernon, which organizes the festival. “Don’t forget to stop by the Touch-A-Truck activity zone sponsored by Edward Jones of Mount Vernon for a picture in the Mount Vernon Fire Department fire truck or Mount Vernon Police Department Police cruiser.”

There will be 80 vendors selling on the streets of downtown, the release said.

A+ Auto Brokers is sponsoring a free car show on the square. Owners of the cars are asked to make a $10 donation to keep First Fridays free.

Traffic will be closed a block north of Public Square, around the Square and on South Main Street down to the Ohio Avenue starting at 4:30  p.m., the release said.
