The Knox County Garden Clubs had a very successful Artistic Flower Show on July 29 at the Knox County Fair. There were two junior exhibitors, eight exhibitors in the adult amateur design section and seven exhibitors in the amateur, professional or judge section.

In the Junior Artistic Design Section, Best of Show went to Kaitlyn Stulka. Kaitlyn’s design was entered in the class “Equestrian Events," a design including horse accessory(ies). She chose to use colorful cowboy boots and a horse shoe place in front on top of the boots.

In Section A open to amateur designers, any individual or garden club member, the Best of Show was exhibited by Jan Moody. Her design used warm colored flowers of orange, red, and yellow depicting the Olympic Torch. Most Creative Design was displayed by Angela Stulka,. Her design “Synchronized Swimming” was a synergistic design. A synergistic design is a three-dimensional creative design or three or more units that are the containers, with plant materials and other components, sharing common characteristics designed to create an artistic whole. Angela used glass containers with pebbles in the bottom with plant material in three of four containers. They were all connected by pieces of grass.

In Section B open to amateurs, any individual, garden club member, professional designer, judge or student judge, Best in Show went to Joy Sprang for her traditional Hogarth curve design using two containers, titled “Wrestling”. Her design featured blue hydrangea. Joy also won Most Creative Design. The class was titled “Sports Equipment,” an interpretative design including item(s) of summer Olympic sports equipment, either actual or a replica. Joy used two red ping pong paddles with red glads and black-painted line material in a metal container.

Congratulations to all of the winners. Thank you to all designers entering the Artistic Flower Show.
