MOUNT VERNON – In recognition of the Kokosing Gap Trail’s 30th anniversary this year, a sculpture was recently installed at the Mount Vernon terminus of the KGT. Volunteers completing the installation were Don Horn, Dave Parr and KGT board president Randy Cronk.

The installation was made possible by donations and a grant from the Ariel Foundation. Featured in the heart are nearly 50 bicycle wheels donated by local cyclists. Custom Cutters of Mount Vernon fabricated and painted the sculpture.

The sculpture is dedicated to all those who have appreciated, enjoyed and used the trail, and to all of the volunteers who have cared for the trail since it opened three decades ago.

The 30th anniversary celebration of the KGT will continue Oct. 10 when the KGT partners with the Heart of Ohio Trail for the Celebration of Trails in Knox County event. This celebratory event will be held at Ariel-Foundation Park from noon-3 p.m.
