MARENGO — On June 25, 2021, heaven gained a wonderful man as Chris E. Adkins, 63, went to his eternal home after a long illness with lung cancer.

He was born in Mt. Gilead on June 3, 1958, to the late Herbert “Wes” Adkins and Joan (Totten) Adkins of Marengo. Chris was a 1976 graduate of Highland High School, where he was active in FFA. After graduating, he and his brother Mark Adkins started a farming operation, Adkins Brothers, that grew into a large, successful agriculture business.

A man of many interests, hunting, scuba diving, boating and tubing, golfing, and all things related to his son Ryan’s activities. He was a member of the New Era Golf Club and several agriculture organizations. Treasured family vacations were spent in Florida. Humble and true, he was a fun-loving, honorable, good man who was devoted to his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Nancy (Gates), with whom he shared 34 wonderful years, son Ryan (Brittany Messmer), mother Joan Adkins, brother Mark (Peggy) Adkins of Marengo, niece Mindy (Brian) Howard, nephews Trevor Adkins, Christopher, and Eric Gates, as well as extended family and friends.

In addition to his father Wes, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents Tillie and Lemard Totten.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to the Wednesday 12 noon funeral services at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. St. Rt. 3, at St. Rt. 61, Sunbury, OH 43074. His uncle Pastor Joe Graham will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions can be made to Ohio Health Hospice.
