MVGSL roundup: McCann hits for cycle to help Jeld Wen win 8U title

Jeld Wen took control with six runs in the first inning and held off a late rally to beat Dugan Energy 19-13 to capture the Mount Vernon Girls Softball League 8U championship on Thursday at Memorial Park.

Evie McCann hit for the cycle and Jaylyn Riley also had four hits to pace Jeld Wen, which scored five runs in each of the second and fourth innings.

Elizabeth Holler, Kaylin Peck, Lia Davis and Tinley Boggs each had three hits for Jeld Wen. Peck had two doubles and Davis and Boggs each doubled once.

Kaylee Mullins, Bailey Payne and Kinleigh Overholt had four hits apiece to lead Dugan. Mullins hit a home run and a double, Payne doubled twice and Overholt added a double.

Raelyn Hall also homered for Dugan and Alyssa Kandel added three hits.

Dugan Energy 9, Alan’s Auto 8

Dugan Energy plated a run in the top of the fifth inning that ended up being the difference in a 9-8 win over Alan’s Auto on Thursday.

Dugan scored two runs in the first inning and four in the second to take a 6-1 lead. Alan’s Auto rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth, but fell short.
