NORTH LIBERTY – Darren L. Price, the man wanted in connection with a June 17 shooting incident in Fredericktown, was apprehended on June 24 at approximately 2:19 p.m.

Officers took Price, 38, into custody at a residence in North Liberty, a statement from Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer said. The arrest comes one week after the Fredericktown incident took place and two days after an arrest warrant was issued.

As the Mount Vernon News reported, the initial incident unfolded when Patrolman Josh Jones of the Fredericktown Police Department stopped a maroon Pontiac sedan on Fredericktown Amity Road near Armentrout Road at approximately 2:47 p.m. on June 17.

“As Patrolman Jones made his initial approach to the vehicle, the unknown male driver pointed a handgun at him through the driver’s side window,” a news release from the Fredericktown Police Department said. “In response, Ptl. Jones fired his duty-issued sidearm at the driver and the vehicle then accelerated away at a high rate of speed.”

Jones, uninjured by the shots, followed the car but eventually lost sight of it, the department said. It was later found in Richland County.

On Tuesday, June 22, a warrant was issued for Price’s arrest, with officials calling him “potentially armed and dangerous.”

Shaffer’s report credited information from the public as well as evidence and information collected by deputies and Ohio B.C.I. agents with helping identify the suspect.

Based on a tip from the Mount Vernon Police Department, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office engaged the U.S. Marshal Service and its Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team. Both agencies added technical support and personnel to assist in locating and apprehending Price, who is currently being held in the Knox County Jail. The case remains under investigation.
