ASHLAND – Utica graduate Gavin Posey was one of three from the Ashland University football program named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team in NCAA Division II – Super Region 3 on Thursday, June 10.
Earning the distinction for the second time was senior wide receiver Logan Bolin, while junior quarterback Austin Brenner joined Posey, a junior right tackle, as first-time honorees.
Posey, also a two-year starter, sports a 3.88 cumulative GPA as an accounting major. He has started all 21 career games so far as an Eagle.
Bolin, a three-year starter who also was Academic All-District in 2019, has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.75 in the MBA program following his graduation in the spring of 2020 with a degree in finance (GPA of 3.60). He has been named both second-team- and honorable mention All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Brenner, a two-year starter, has a 3.79 cumulative GPA as an intervention specialist – moderate-intensive K-12 major. The 2018 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, he also has been second-team- and honorable mention All-GLIAC.
This is the second time in the last three years that the Eagle football program has had three Academic All-District choices (also in 2018). Since 2015, AU football has collected 11 such awards.
CoSIDA’s Academic All-District football teams were selected this spring rather than last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bolin, Brenner and Posey all move on to the 2020–21 CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, and those teams will be revealed on July 13. Nineteen Eagles have earned Academic All-America honors, with three — current Miami Dolphins tight end Adam Shaheen (2015–16), Chad DiFranco (1995–96) and Jeff Mowrey (1994–95) — being two-time honorees.
Ashland University football did not play a season in 2020 due to the pandemic. The Eagles will celebrate their first 100 years of football this fall and will open the 2021 campaign at 1 p.m. on Sept. 4 at Notre Dame College. AU will play its home opener at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 vs. Ferris State and will play its first Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest on Oct. 2 at Walsh.
