Memorial Day will be celebrated around Knox County on Monday, May 31.

CENTERBURG – The Centerburg American Legion Post 460 will begin the event at 11 a.m. at the Eastview Cemetery. The keynote speaker will be Maj. Gen. Dennis Laich, U.S. Army, Ret. The Legion Color Guard will lead a procession of local Scouts and the Centerburg High School Band at 10:45 a.m., starting at the corner of Church Street and Hartford Avenue. All are invited to walk with this group, join at any part of the procession or meet at the cemetery, the ceremony site. The program will last approximately 30 minutes and conclude by honoring those who died in service to our country with a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps.” 

FREDERICKTOWN – Staging for the parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the Public Square. The flag-raising will take place at 9:45 a.m., and the Fredericktown High School band will play briefly. Then the band will lead the parade to Forest Cemetery, where the American Legion will hold a ceremony in honor of our fallen heroes.

MARENGO – Bloomfield Cemetery will hold a Memorial Day service with speaker Ken Davies, who is a West Point graduate. The Highland Marching Band will provide the music, and the Highland NJROTC will present the flag.

MOUNT VERNON – With a theme of “Reflect and Remember,” the parade will start at 10:30 a.m., traveling west on East High Street (at George) to Gay Street and then exit south on Gay Street to Vine Street, east on Vine Street to Park Street, north on Park to East High and east on High Street to the staging area. The staging area at East High and George streets will open at 8 a.m., with arrival expected no later than 9 a.m.
