SPARTA – J. Gordon Boyd, 77, of Westerville and formerly of Sparta, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, May 25, 2021, at Ross Heart Hospital.
Gordon was born on Nov. 21, 1943, to the late Elmer and Juanita (Elick) Boyd. Prior to retirement in 2003, he worked as a lab tech at Anheuser-Busch for over 30 years.
Gordon was an avid golfer, garnering multiple holes-in-one. He enjoyed playing courses all over the world. He was an active mason of Chester Lodge #238. Gordon’s favorite hobby was magic. He was a self-taught magician who loved traveling all over to display his skills and to meet new people.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Shari (Therkelson-Beaver) Boyd; son, Blair Boyd of Atlanta; daughter, Jacquie Boyd of Pickerington; stepson, Scott (Christina) Beaver of Henderson, Nevada; stepdaughters, Stephanie (Jason) Kelley of Columbus and Stacie (Kevin) Lang of Henderson, Nevada; five grandchildren; sister, Joyce (Michael) Ray of Marengo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, in Bloomfield Cemetery near Sparta, with Pastor Jack Griffith officiating. A private family visitation will be held at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made out to the James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University, 460 W. 10th Ave., Columbus, OH 43210.
