Track and field roundup: Riegel wins two titles at DIII district

Ben Riegel swept the throwing events, winning two district titles at the Division III meet at Granville.

The field events finished up on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 18–19, with the running event finals set to take place Saturday morning, May 22.

Riegel won the discus with a throw of 152-3 and won the shot put with a throw of 54-8.5.

Centerburg ruled the two events, qualifying three individuals. Ian McKnight placing third in the shot put (45-1) and Mason Lanthorn placing third in the discus.

The top four individuals of each event in each district qualify for next week’s regional meet at Chillicothe Southeastern.

Northmor’s Rachael Ervin took home a district title, winning the pole vault (8-8) in District 1.

Chloe Goulter took second place in the District 1 long jump (16-8). Danville’s Rachel Wilson (15-1) was ninth.

Cardington’s Hazel Joliff finished second in the District 2 long jump (15-6.25), with teammate Olivia Dyer (13-8) just missing out with a fifth-place finish behind Madison-Plains’ Hannah Dyer (13-10).

Fredericktown’s Steven Tumbleson qualified with a third-place finish in the pole vault (12-6). Mount Gilead’s Wyatt Harriman (11-0) placed fourth, beating JJ Grennell (10-0) of the Freddies. Northmor’s Connor Radojcisics (10-0) was sixth, Mount Gilead’s Mason Kidwell (9-0) was eighth and Northmor’s Bryant Randolph (8-6) placed 10th.

East Knox’s Chase Darr advanced with a third-place finish in the high jump (5-10) along with Mount Gilead’s Owen High (5-10), who was second. MG’s Colt Hedrick (5-9) was fifth and Northmor’s Gavin Miller (5-9) was sixth.

East Knox qualified a pair in the District 1 shot put. Emily Opfer (29-7.25) and Macy Spencer (28.6.25) finished third and fourth, respectively, for the Bulldogs. Danville’s Jaylyn Workman (27.8.5) was sixth and teammate Sydney Wilson (26-10.5) finished ninth.

Spencer narrowly missed out in the discus (87-6) in District 1, finishing fifth behind Newark Catholic’s Ilana O’Neill (91-7).

MG’s Isabela Schroeter (5-1) was second in the high jump in District 2. Northmor’s Haley Dille (4-6) tied for sixth and MG’s Olivia Millisor (4-6) was eighth. Centerburg’s Kelby Perry (4-6) finished tied for eighth in District 1.

Mount Gilead’s Mikala Harris moves on after a third-place finish in the discus (93-5). Teammate Grace Mowery (79-10) was sixth.

Mount Gilead’s Grace Shipman qualified with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (7-4), and Cardington’s Dana Congrove finished fourth in the shot put (29-8.5) to move on in District 1. MG’s Kylie Irwin (28-0.5) was ninth in the shot put.

Northmor’s PJ Lower finished fifth in the long jump (20-2), edged by Fairbanks’ Kaleb Bosworth (20-3.5). Gavin Wilson (19-8.75) was eighth and East Knox’s Samuel Whitney (19-3) placed ninth.

Joshua Rashley (122-10) placed sixth in the discus for the Freddies, and MG’s Jayce Decker (39-11.75) and Jesus Rubio (39-10.75) were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the shot put.

DIVISION II

Highland’s Julia Laracuente won two events, and three others advanced at the Division II district field meet held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 18–19, at Westerville North High School.

The running finals are slated for Saturday morning.

Laracuente won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches and took first in the long jump at 17-0.5.

The top four individuals in each event in Division II qualify for next week’s regional meet at Lexington High School.

Utica’s Chandler Hartman qualified with a second-place finish in the discus (149-7) but missed out in the shot put (42.3.5), placing fifth behind Johnstown’s Noah Thompson (42-10).

Laura Brubaker of Utica advanced in the pole vault (8-6) with a fourth-place finish.

Highland’s Landyn Albanese was third in the long jump (20-7.5), but Alexis Eusey just missed the cut in the shot put (32-2.5) after being edged by Heath’s Hailey Smith (32-4.5).

Fredericktown’s Emma Fowler was sixth in the pole vault (8-0), Summer Weller was eighth in the shot put (31-0) and Bella Spencer was ninth in the high jump (4-8).

The Freddies are split between divisions, with the girls team competing in Division II and the boys team in Division III.

DIVISION I

Erich Rhodeback was second in the high jump (6-1) and second in the long jump (21-3) to lead Mount Vernon at the Division I district meet at Hilliard Darby.

The field events were held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 18–19, and the running finals are scheduled for Saturday morning.

The top four individuals in each event qualify for next week’s regional meet at Pickerington North.

Stella Bainbridge was seventh in the discus (102-9), McKenna Brokaw was seventh in the high jump (4-10) and 10th in the long jump (15-6.5), and Anna Dinnen was ninth in the shot put (31-11.25) to lead the Yellow Jacket girls team.

Logan Moore was ninth in the pole vault (11-0) for the boys team.
