MARENGO – Basic and advanced fishing and water safety skills will be covered in the upcoming Oakland Park Conservation Club Baitcasters Seminar, according to a press release posted on the Ohio Department of Natural Resources website.
Held the weekend of June 18–20 in Marengo, the 7 a.m. to noon conference is designed for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The cost is free for children ages 8 through 16, and $20 for adults.
Beginner students will be assigned the majority of their courses — aimed at teaching basic fishing skills — and will also have the opportunity to individually select some courses a la carte.
As students progress through the course over multiple years, they will only have a few assigned courses and an increased selection of a la carte options to choose from.
Check-in is 6–9 p.m. on Friday or 7–7:45 a.m. on Saturday.
Classes and Fishing Derby will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Optional open fishing for all will be 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
Parents can fish on Saturday and Sunday with their youth. The event organizers will provide meals. Camping sites are available at no charge, and plenty of prizes will be handed out.
