The Central Ohio Crappie Circuit will hold its tournament on Sunday, May 30, at Alum Creek State Park near Columbus.

A post on the group’s Facebook page from Oliver Thwaite stated a second tournament could open in the fall. Meanwhile, the contest will offer a new format.

Here are the tournament rules:

  • The free tournament will have $20 optional big-fish pots that pay back 100%.
  • There will be a shore fishing division as well as a boat/kayak division.
  • The goal is to have more than 200 people fish, with lots of youth participation.
Thwaite advised readers to check back on Facebook for updates. The address is facebook.com/groups/CRAPPIE.

“You do not have to have anyone 17 or younger fishing with you, but we highly encourage it,” he said. “We want to get kids out there, especially if they have never fished before.”

The group is also accepting donations for door prizes. Anyone interested in donating any items for door prizes, whether they go to everyone or are designated as youth, should comment on the group’s Facebook page or send Thwaite a direct message.

The tournament is free, so it doesn’t cost you anything and you still get the tournament experience, Thwaite added.
