Softball roundup: Wine leads Blue Devils to 2 wins over Knights

Maddy Wine tossed a pair of complete games to lead Danville to a season sweep over Northmor in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference play.

Wine, who hit an RBI single as part of a three-run first inning, tossed a four-hit shutout to lead the Blue Devils to a 6-0 win over the Golden Knights on Monday, April 26, in Galion.

Danville pounded out three home runs and 14 hits to roll to a 12-2 win at Northmor on Friday, April 23, in Galion.

Grace Gronberg, Taryn Mickley and Camie Newbold each played long ball; and Wine allowed two earned runs over seven innings to lead the Blue Devils.

Top-ranked Pirates beat Bulldogs

Chelsey Miller doubled twice and drove in two runs to lead top-ranked Cardington to a 9-2 win at East Knox in KMAC play on Monday, April 26, in Howard.

Dana Bertke and Makayla Linkous each had two hits and two runs, and Genevieve Longsdorf struck out 10 to pick up the win in the circle for the Pirates.

Cami Bailey had two hits, a run and an RBI to lead the Bulldogs.

Bailey did it on both sides of the plate to lead East Knox to a 9-2 win at West Muskingum in non-league play on Saturday, April 24, in Zanesville.

Bailey allowed two unearned runs over seven innings of work and added two hits — including a home run — at the plate for the Bulldogs.

Hannah McCoy, Natalie Smith and Shanda Melick each had three hits for East Knox, which totaled 17 hits as a team. Smith drove in three runs, Melick had two RBIs and McCoy scored twice.

Trojans, Scots split

Amelia Smith’s RBI single in the sixth inning ended up being the difference-maker as host Centerburg beat Highland 3-2 on Monday, April 26, to salvage a split between the two in KMAC play.

Allie Beekman had two hits and an RBI, and Savannah Dehart allowed one earned run in a complete game to lead Centerburg on Monday.

Adyson Landefeld and Audrey Robinson each drove in runs in the seventh inning, but Highland’s rally fell short.

Stevie Asher had 14 punch outs in a two-hit shutout and added a go-ahead solo home run to open the third inning, leading the host Scots to an 11-0 win in six innings over the Trojans on Friday, April 23, in Sparta.

Robinson hit a two-run homer later in the inning, and Emma West crushed a three-run shot that was part of a seven-run sixth to close it out for Highland.

Dehart had both hits for the Trojans.

Scots score 21 in doubleheader rout

Asher and West each tossed five-inning shutouts to lead Highland to a convincing doubleheader sweep over visiting Shelby in non-league play on Saturday, April 24.

Asher struck out 11 in a one-hit, 10-0 win in the opener. Guinevere Jackson, Robinson and West each drove in two runs on two hits to lead the Scots on offense.

Jackson drove in four runs on two hits including a triple to back West, who allowed four hits in an 11-0 win in Game 2.

Freddies score 45 runs in three games

Alyssa Perkins and Emma Hatfield combined to drive in nine runs, and Lainey Partington tossed a six-hit shutout to lead Fredericktown to a 15-0 win over host Mount Gilead in KMAC play on Monday, April 26.

Perkins drove in five runs on three hits and Hatfield added four RBIs on two hits including a triple to pace the Freddies on Monday.

Sydney Sansom had three hits, Ryleigh Bebout scored three times and Partington drove in three runs to lead host Fredericktown to a big 16-0 five-inning win over Mount Gilead in KMAC play on Friday, April 23.

Perkins struck out nine batters in a three-hit shutout for the Freddies.

Fredericktown built an eight-run lead early only to hold off host Clear Fork in a 14-12 non-league slugfest on Saturday, April 24, in Bellville.

Hatfield homered twice and Perkins went deep as well to lead the Freddies.

Courtney Palmer hit two home runs and Pacey Chrastina homered once to lead the Colts, who scored 10 runs over the final three innings but fell short.

Utica notches pair of LCL wins

Cass Fouty’s two-run double in the eighth inning lifted Utica to a 7-5 victory at Newark Catholic on Monday, April 26.

Lexi Wiegand and Kayleigh Crowe each had three hits and scored two runs to lead Utica, which used a two-run sixth to win the Licking County League contest.

Wiegand had three hits — all doubles — and added three runs and a pair of RBIs to lead Utica to an 11-6 win over Northridge in LCL play on Friday, April 23, in Johnstown.

Leah Swetnam also had three hits, and Ryleigh Lees added a pair of doubles and allowed six unearned runs in a complete-game victory for Utica.

Shelby Staley went four-for-four to lead the Vikings.
