Declan Curry scored twice in the first quarter as the Kenyon College men’s lacrosse team built a 4-0 lead. The Lords cruised to a 15-4 win over Allegheny in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, April 21, in Gambier.
Mike Asuncion scored a hat trick and added an assist, and Curry and Mike Matteo added three goals and two assists each to lead the Lords.
Nick Jordan led the Gators with a pair of goals and an assist.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Kate Lengel scored four goals, but Kenyon came up short at Allegheny 14-11 in NCAC play on Tuesday, April 20, in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
Mary Allen and Evi Malagise scored back-to-back goals to give the Gators an 8-6 lead late in the first half.
The Ladies were able to get within one on three occasions but couldn’t get over the hump.
Senna Perelman scored four goals and dished out four assists to lead Allegheny.
SOFTBALL
Kylee Matern hit a two-run double in the second inning to give MVNU a 2-1 lead, and Macee Marcum made it stick. The Cougars knocked off seventh-ranked Marian 5-1 in the opening game of a Crossroads League doubleheader on Tuesday, April 20, in Mount Vernon.
Marcum struck out six and allowed one earned run over seven innings of work in the complete-game win.
Maddison Ruhl had three hits and scored a run, and Courtney Knepp added two hits and a run for MVNU.
Ruhl had a two-run single as part of a three-run seventh inning, but Marian held off the MVNU rally and took the second game, 4-3, to salvage a split.
Shelbie Stotts had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Knights, and Ruhl finished with two hits to lead the Cougars in Game 2.
BASEBALL
Conor Deasey and Nolan Thompson each tossed complete games to help Allegheny complete a doubleheader sweep of Kenyon in NCAC play on Thursday, April 22, in Gambier.
Will Sturgeon hit a solo home run in the first inning to give the Lords an early 1-0 lead.
But Thompson closed the door from there. He allowed two hits and two walks the rest of the way, and the Gators defeated Kenyon 3-1 to complete the sweep.
Ryan Dougherty drove in two runs on two hits to lead Allegheny to a 4-0 win in Game 1.
Sturgeon had two hits to lead the Lords.
