Baseball roundup: Freddies put up big numbers in weekend wins

The Fredericktown baseball team put eight runs on the board in the first inning to run away with a 17-1 five-inning victory at Danville in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference play on Monday, April 19.

Evan Rine had two hits, scored four runs and drove in three to lead Fredericktown.

Brady Lester did it at the plate and on the mound to lead host Fredericktown to a 19-0 win over Granville Christian in five innings in the second game of a non-league doubleheader on Saturday, April 17.

Lester went 5-for-5 with four runs and three RBIs, and he struck out all six batters he faced to finish off a combined no-hitter with Rine.

Caleb Sheriff and Kaid Carpenter scored five runs each to lead the Freddies to a 29-2 five-inning win over the Lions in the opener.

Sheriff drove in two runs on a triple and a double to help Fredericktown hold off visiting Highland in KMAC play on Friday, April 16.

Rider Minnick had two hits, an RBI and a run to lead the Scots, who closed to within two after trailing 5-0.

Kadin Johnson and Jon Jensen had back-to-back RBI doubles to stake Highland to a three-run lead after one inning. The Scots rolled from there to an 11-1 win in five innings at Mount Gilead to bounce back from Friday’s loss in KMAC play on Monday, April 19.

Devils split with Millersport

Dustin Beckett and Walker Weckesser hit back-to-back two-run doubles to highlight a 10-run first inning for Danville. The host Devils held off a late rally by Millersport to win 13-9 in five innings to earn a split of a non-league doubleheader on Saturday, April 17.

Beckett finished with two hits, two runs and a stolen base; and Weckesser scored three runs, drove in three runs and stole two bases to lead Danville.

Michael Levacy struck out 12 batters in a three-hit shutout as the Lakers beat the Devils 4-0 in the opener.

Utica runs win streak to four

Hunter Billman snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-run double in the seventh inning to break the seal for Utica in a 7-2 win at Johnstown in Licking County League play on Monday, April 19.

Tanner Parsons had three hits and Collin McCullough tossed two scoreless innings in relief to notch the win for Utica, which has won four consecutive games.

Parsons started the wild weekend with a walk-off double to lead Utica to a 4-3 win over Heath in LCL play on Friday, April 16, at American Legion Post 92 Field.

Billman worked a two-out walk and scored from first on a first-pitch-swinging Parsons.

Brock Pfister went all seven innings, allowing two earned runs to notch the win on the mound.

Householder leads Bulldogs over Trojans

Bryar Householder struck out 10 batters on the mound and had three hits and drove in two at the plate to lead East Knox to a 10-5 win at Centerburg in KMAC play on Monday, April 19.

Householder capped a five-run second inning with an RBI single and added an RBI single in the seventh to help the Bulldogs hold off the Trojans before finishing off a complete game in the bottom half of the inning.

Northmor scored four runs in the third inning and added four more in the fourth before stopping short an East Knox rally to win 9-8 in KMAC play on Friday, April 16, in Galion.

Garrett Corwin’s three-run homer in the third inning jump-started the Golden Knights.

Sam Printz had three hits and scored once, and Weston Melick added two hits and two runs for the Bulldogs.

Owen Blanton’s bat and Carson VanHoose’s arm kept Centerburg at bay as host Mount Gilead won an 8-3 decision in KMAC play on Friday, April 16.

Blanton drove in three runs on two hits and scored once, and VanHoose allowed two earned runs in a complete game for MG.

Sam Hansen had two hits and two RBIs to lead Centerburg.
