DELAWARE – Kathleen F. Sparks, 83, of Delaware, slipped away to heaven Saturday afternoon, April 17, 2021, after an extended stay at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was born on March 21, 1938, to the late Ferd and Nannie (Presley) Hubbard.

Kathleen grew up in Galena, where she met the love of her life, Crate Dean Sparks, in 1953. They were married in November 1955 and became devoted servants of God in 1964. Kathleen loved nothing more than supporting Crate in his ministry. They had four wonderful children whom they raised in love, and Kathleen was so proud of each of them. In addition, she was a devoted Mommaw to her three grandchildren, all of whom she absolutely adored.

Kathleen loved cooking for her family, and they loved her pink cookies, soup beans and cornbread, fried potatoes and no-bake oatmeal cookies. She loved to crochet and spent much of her time sewing and mending things for anyone who would ask.

She leaves behind her four children, Roger Sparks of Delaware, Debbie Corwin of Delaware, Anita (Kris) Sparks of Delaware and Yvonne (Marc) Rayburn of Sunbury; three grandchildren, Brooke Corwin of Columbus, Clay Sparks of Delaware and Noelle Sparks of Delaware; brother, Cecil Hubbard of Mount Vernon; sister, Margie Bowen of Galena; many nieces and nephews; as well as a special friend, Ethel McCumber.

In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Crate D. Sparks; a brother; and three sisters.

We don’t know what-n-all she is going to do in heaven, but we know that Crate has welcomed her home with open arms.

The family will receive friends from 5–8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, State Route 3 at State Route 61 in Sunbury; where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, with the Rev. Dorsel Messick officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
