MOUNT VERNON – Sharon Kay Hunter, 76, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Knox Community Hospital. She was born on Aug. 10, 1944, in Knox County to the late Lester and Bertha (Perry) Smith.
Sharon was employed for numerous years at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center as an STNA, from which she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. Sharon enjoyed playing cards games and going to casinos.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Dennis) Nicholls; two grandchildren, Dennis Nicholls III and Emily Nichols; and three brothers, Steve (Lori Lyons) Smith, Jeff (Connie Raydurn) Smith and Dick (Dolores) Smith.
In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, James Hunter; her sister, Carol Shultz; and two brothers, Lester Smith and Jim Smith.
In keeping with Sharon’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will observe a private service at a later date.
