Makenna Belcher was first in four events and Joel Roberts took top honors in three more to lead the host Highland track and field team to a win in a quad on Tuesday, April 6, in Sparta.
The Fighting Scots’ girls team (131.5 points) defeated Cardington (56.5), Danville (41) and Team FCA (23).
The Highland boys team scored 108 points to beat out Danville (49), Cardington (44) and Team FCA (23).
Belcher took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.48 seconds and the 200-meter dash (28.64).
She teamed with Brylinn Tuggle, Mackenzie Blubaugh and Peyton Carpenter to win the 4x200-meter relay (1:54.90); and ran with Carpenter, Blubaugh and Emma Barnett to win the 4x400-meter relay (4:30.82).
Roberts took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.16 seconds. He teamed with Ashton Hamilton, Mason Duncan and Hunter Bolton to win the 4x400-meter relay (3:50.36); and teamed with Bolton, Tucker Tague and Grath Garee to finish first in the 4x800 (9:27.76).
Other first-place finishers for the Scots were Landon Remmert in the 110-meter hurdles (18.14), John Melchiori in the 300-meter hurdles (46.53) and Corbin Benedict in the 3,200-meter run (11:46.29),
The team of Tuggle, Blubaugh, Carpenter and Audrey Weaver took first in the girls 4x100-meter relay, as did the boys 4x200-meter relay team of Melchiori, Owen Stillwell, Alex McClellan and Dane Nauman (1:40.91).
Darren Styer (8 feet, 6 inches) and Gracyn Zerby (6-9) each won the pole vault, Nick Smith (121-1.5) and Camryn Taylor (84-8) each won the discus, and Caden Holtrey (46-4.25) and Alexis Eusey (32-1) each won the shot put in field events for Highland.
Alenah Boeshart (13.84) took first in the 100-meter dash, Brooklynn Hess (4-6) won the high jump and Aiden Bell (19-1.75) won the long jump to lead the Blue Devils.
For the Pirates, Mason White, Tyler Rose and Hazel Joliff each finished first in two events. White took the 800-meter run (2:07.35) and the 1,600-meter run (4:51.15), Rose finished first in the 100-meter dash (11.82) and the 200-meter dash (24.20), and Joliff was tops in the 300-meter hurdles (52.37) and the long jump (14-7.25).
Other Cardington first-place finishers were Loey Hallabrin (2:31.16) in the 800-meter run, Morgan White in the 3,200-meter run (13:07.17) and Jason Bockbrader in the high jump (5-2).
Northmor quad
Chloe Goulter won three events to lead Centerburg in a quad at Northmor on Tuesday, April 6, in Galion.
Goulter took first place in the 100-meter (13.0), 200-meter (27.7) and the long jump (15-4.5) to lead the Trojans (54), who lost out to Mount Gilead (110) and the host Golden Knights (73), but beat Mount Gilead Christian (3).
Avery Tucker took the 400-meter (1:06.1) and the 800-meter (2:50.0) for the Centerburg girls team.
Ben Riegel won the discus (158-5.5) and the shot put (54-1); and the relay team of Alex Grove, Tyler Johnson, Mason Turske and Gavin Wilson won the 4x400 (47.3) and the 4x800 (1:38.8) for the Trojans boys team (77), who lost to Mount Gilead (100.5) but beat out Northmor (65.5) and Mount Gilead Christian (0).
Garret Lamb-Hart won the 110-meter hurdles (16.3), the 300-meter hurdles (45.7) and teamed with Matthew Bland, Quade Harris and Ryan Davis to take the 1,600-meter relay (3:53.2) to lead the MG boys team.
Isabela Schroeter took the high jump (4-10) and teamed with Grace Mowery, Asia Jones and Madilyn Elson to win the 400-meter relay (55.0) for the MG girls team.
PJ Lower took top honors in the 100-meter (11.2) and the long jump (19-1) to lead the Northmor boys team.
Rachel Ervin won the 300-meter hurdles (53.7) and the pole vault (8-0) to lead the Knights girls team.
Clear Fork tri
Fredericktown won five events at a Clear Fork tri meet but came up short against the Colts and Shelby on Tuesday, April 6, in Bellville.
Elsa Hoam won the 3,200-meter race with a time of 11:40, Celeste Swihart took first in the pole vault with a jump of 9-6 and Ashley Cockrell won the 100-meter hurdles (17.6) to lead the girls team to a third-place finish. The Freddies scored 37 points to finish behind the Whippets (73) and the Colts (67).
The boys won two relay events. JJ Grennell, Justin Woodring, Logan Small and Jeremiah McKinley took first in the 4x200 (1:38.6), and the team of Woodring, McKinley, Caedmon Platt and Xavier Comer was first in the 4x400.
The Freddies (49) edged Clear Fork (48) for second, behind Shelby (78).
BOYS TENNIS
Mount Vernon opened up Ohio Cardinal Conference play with a 5-0 loss at Lexington on Tuesday, April 6.
Tommy Secrist, Ryan Mecurio and Ross Drlik each defeated Quinn Hoffman, Alex Buehrer and Brian Sabula 6-0, 6-0 (respectively) in singles action.
Karl Etzel and Joseph Litao beat Jack Staats and Ethan Jarosz 6-1, 6-0; and Ethan Remy and Jake Chilcoate defeated Holden Bleiler and Wade Brown 6-0, 6-0.
