MOUNT VERNON – City police arrested a suspect Wednesday morning after an alleged robbery at the CES Credit Union located at 400 W. Chestnut St.

Officers took Jarad L. Shaw, 39, of Mount Vernon, into custody and recovered stolen money, according to a press release from the Mount Vernon Police Department.

As officers were en route to the alleged crime scene at around 9:39 a.m., dispatchers alerted them the suspect was wearing a yellow T-shirt and black mask. He had fled the scene on foot toward West High Street and North Sandusky Street, the release said.

Dispatchers also told the officers the armed suspect had absconded with a large amount of money.

At the credit union, a witness directed police to a suspect standing near the scene, later identified as Shaw.

“Officers were able to take Shaw into custody without incident,” a police department news release said. “During a search of Shaw’s person, an airsoft pistol was recovered as well as a large amount of money and a black mask.”

Shaw was taken to the Knox County Jail and charged with aggravated robbery, the news release said.
