BELLVILLE – Gary L. Stevens, 74, of Gregg Road in Bellville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on Aug. 8, 1946, in Mount Vernon, the son of Orley and Ruth (Snyder) Stevens.
Gary was a 1965 graduate of Fredericktown High School and served in the Ohio National Guard from 1965 to 1971. He worked 20-plus years for Tappan Stove Company in Mansfield before retiring from the North Central State College maintenance department.
Gary was an active member of the Palmyra Church of Christ, where he served as an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and sat on the Missions Committee since 1981.
He is survived by his wife, Naspa (Helmick) Stevens, whom he married on Oct. 23, 1965; his children, Matthew Stevens of Columbus, Jodi (Richard) Riel of Fredericktown, Wesley Stevens of Mansfield and Carrie Koppert of Columbus; four grandchildren, Josh Stone, Justin (Olivia Shaw) Pursel, and Ali and Noah Koppert; and two sisters, Charlotte Butts of Danville and Mary Jo (Bob) Corcoran of Mount Vernon.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Burch.
The family will observe a private service at the Palmyra Church of Christ, but you may livestream the service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, on the Palmyra Church of Christ webpage at www.palcc.com. A public celebration of life service will follow the pandemic.
