MOUNT VERNON – McDaniel CPA, which has been offering its services to the Mount Vernon community since 1981, recently received the Small Business of the Year Award.

In 1981, the firm was called Dennis and Schisler but eventually became McDaniel CPA.

"We are honored to receive the Small Business of the Year Award," Renee McDaniel told the Mount Vernon News. "Our staff works so hard, especially to survive tax season. It is appreciated to be recognized by the members of the Chamber of Commerce."

"We are thankful to our clients who put their trust and faith in us," she added. "Our staff is dedicated to partnering with our clients to assist them in achieving their financial goals."

McDaniel joined the firm in 2003 as a senior auditor and has since been promoted to managing director. She now handles administration of the firm as well as accounting services and tax preparation for a variety of clients. She specializes in nonprofit- and small to mid-size firms.

In addition to working in public accounting, McDaniel has been director of finance for The Builders Exchange of Central Ohio and controller for Maidware Products Inc.

When asked what she loves most about living in Mount Vernon, McDaniel said the biggest highlight is the people.

"We have a community willing to rise up to any challenge and lend a hand to help someone else," she told the News. "You don't find this type of support just anywhere."

In addition to her work at McDaniel CPA, McDaniel is president of the Knox Energy Cooperative, treasurer for Heart of Ohio Estate Planning Council, board member for the Area Development Foundation and The Station Break, and is a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church.

Outside of professional activities, McDaniel is the proud parent of two sons, one having just graduated from medical school and another who has earned a degree in mechanical engineering. Both she and her husband Don are avid water skiers and can be found on the water during warmer times of the year.

A key component of what makes Mount Vernon such a great community to live in is its active engagement on the part of local residents who consistently work to make their community better.
