Danville's annual Power Lifting Meet postponed until June

DANVILLE – Originally scheduled for Feb. 20 of this year, the Danville Blue Devils' Annual Power Lifting Meet will be held instead on Tuesday, June 1.

Weigh-ins for the competition will be held from 8-10 a.m. with the competition starting at 10:30 a.m. There is an entry fee of $10 per lifter, who must also have a permission slip signed by a guardian. 

Participants will have three attempts at the bench, squat and dead lift. The meet rules on each of these lifts are available on the school website, which also has the permission slip form and registration for the event under the "Annual Power Lifting Meet" tab.

Male participants will be sorted into three divisions: 7th- and 8th grades, 9th- and 10th grades, and 11th- and 12th grades. Lightweight classes will be 125-, 135-, 145- and 155 pounds; middleweight will be 165-, 175-, 185- and 195 pounds; while heavyweight will be 210-, 225-, 250 pounds and unlimited.

There is only one division for female participants, for 7th-12th graders. Classes will be 115-, 125-, 135- and 145 pounds for lightweight; and 155-, 165-, 175 pounds and unlimited for middleweight.

Medals will be awarded to individuals who place first, second and third; ribbons will be awarded to those placing fourth, fifth and sixth. Each division will award a best lifter, and trophies will be awarded to the top seven boys teams and top five girls teams.

Locker rooms with showers will be available for participants.

Admission to the event is $2 for students and $5 for adults. Concessions will be available, with pancakes and sausage available for breakfast. Meet shirts will be available for $10.
