Emma West and Maddy Gordon both went for double-doubles to lead the Highland girls basketball team to a 44-33 win at East Knox in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 6, in Howard.
West had 13 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and a pair of blocks; and Gordon added 11 points, 13 rebounds, a couple of assists and two blocks to lead the Fighting Scots (5-7, 3-5), who took control with an 8-0 run in the second half.
Guinevere Jackson knocked down three 3-pointers and scored 12 points to go with four rebounds, and Brylinn Tuggle added four steals and three helpers for Highland, which trailed 12-9 after one quarter before taking a 24-20 lead into the locker room.
Shanda Melick scored on East Knox’s first possession of the second half, and Joci Totten added a free throw to cut the Bulldogs’ deficit to one before the Scots answered with an 8-0 run.
Melick led East Knox with 12 points, nine rebounds and five steals; and Laura Keith added eight points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Alexandria Magers was also solid with seven points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals; Joci Totten added six points and three boards; and Natalie Smith had four steals for the Bulldogs (4-6, 4-2).
Mount Gilead 52, Danville 39
Mount Gilead opened with a 12-2 first quarter and cruised to a 52-39 win over Danville in KMAC play on Wednesday, Jan. 6, in Mount Gilead.
Madilyn Elson scored 15 points and Isabela Schroeter added 10 points for MG (8-4, 4-4), which pushed its lead to 31-11 at the break before Danville chipped away in the second half.
Brooklyn Hess had 14 points to lead the Blue Devils (7-3, 4-3), who have lost three games in a row.
Northmor 47, Centerburg 39
Paige Caudill knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to help host Northmor pull away in a 47-39 win over Centerburg in KMAC play on Wednesday, Jan. 6, in Galion.
Lexi Wenger scored 17 points and Caudill added 14 points to lead the Golden Knights (2-10, 1-7), who led 21-18 at the break before a 17-10 third quarter.
Chloe Goulter led the Trojans (3-10, 2-6) with 14 points.
BOWLING
Izzy Moore rolled a game-best 223 and a 393 series to lead the Mount Vernon girls team to a 2,009-1,608 win at Lexington in Ohio Cardinal Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Lex Lanes in Lexington.
Trevor Bell helped the boys team complete the sweep with a 2,436-2,363 win over the Minutemen with a game-high 245 and a series-high 421. Tre Flowers backed him with a 413 series after rolling a 225 in the second game. It was the first-ever win for the Yellow Jackets over Lexington, boys or girls.
