MOUNT VERNON – Oneta J. Balcom, 86, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at Hospice of Central Ohio in Columbus. She was born on June 25, 1934, in Knox County.
Oneta was a 1952 graduate of Chesterville High School and married her husband Carl Balcom on March 6, 1954.
Oneta enjoyed the simple things in life. She liked to do word searches, loved to cook and was well known by her family for the pies, cookies and cakes she made. Oneta liked to listen to old country music, especially the Grand Ole Opry.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her canine companion Mr. Binx.
Besides her parents, Oneta was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Balcom; her parents, William Kirkpatrick and Mabel Kirkpatrick Burson; and two brothers, Doyle Kirkpatrick and George Kirkpatrick.
The family will observe a private graveside service in St. John's Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
