For the first time since March, the Mount Vernon Players will perform live theatre, bringing to life the classic Dickens story "A Christmas Carol" — with a twist.

On Dec. 19 and 20, Knox County’s oldest continuous theatre troupe will perform Ohio native David Albert’s adaptation, which reinvents the Christmas tale as an Old Time Radio Show; live at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 106 N. Gay St. in Mount Vernon.

Playing literature’s most famous miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, will be Mark Wildermuth, whom readers may recognize as Faith Lutheran Church’s long-time pastor. Produced by Jim and Amy Stoner, the show is also directed by Amy stoner and will include live sound effects.

Admission is $5 at the door. Show times are Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 20 at 2:30 p.m. Masks will be required.

A recorded version of the show will air on local radio stations at 7 p.m. on Dec. 20 and 24. Participating stations include AM 1300 WMVO, 93.7 WQIO and FM 100.9 in Mount Vernon; and AM 1400 WMAN and 98.3 FM in Mansfield. Mansfield stations will only air the show on Christmas Eve.
