MOUNT VERNON – Ronald LaMoyne Pike, 87, passed away on Nov. 23, 2020, at the Laurels Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. He was born on June 9, 1933, to Harry and Sophia (Schuessler) Pike at their home in West Liberty, Iowa.
Ronald graduated from West Liberty High School in 1951 and from the University of Iowa in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1954-56. He and Nancy Arnold were wed on June 13, 1959, in Davenport, Iowa.
Ronald worked at various companies in the defense and monitoring/controls industries across the United States, finishing as chief electrical engineer at Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, Pa. (living in nearby Waynesboro, Pa.), from which he retired in 1998. He and Nancy moved to Mount Vernon shortly afterward to be closer to their sons and grandchildren.
He is survived by daughter Kathryn Gott of Davenport Iowa; sons, Andrew and Cameron Pike of Mount Vernon; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Ronald was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Nancy; his parents; brothers, Lauren and Willis Pike; and sister, Arlene Verbeck.
Burial was conducted on Nov. 25 in Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
Mortuary services were provided by the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home.
