While October is known for fall, cooler temperatures and numerous Halloween activities, it is also National Cosmetology Month.

The month is a time to honor the talents of cosmetologists and hairdressers across the nation and show them how much they are appreciated for their hard work in the industry. It's encouraged during this time that customers show their appreciation to those whose profession it is to make others look and feel better about themselves for all the work they do.

National Cosmetology Month is a chance for customers to show cosmetologists and hairdressers their gratitude, a post on the Beauty Schools Directory blog said. It could be just offering a hairdresser kind words or even a thank you card. Customers may also opt to give them a little gift as a token of their appreciation.

National Cosmetology Month began 33 years ago, the blog stated. In 1987 the mayor of Bozeman, Montana, issued a proclamation that declared October as National Cosmetology Month. Now more than 50,000 members of the National Cosmetology Association have recognized the holiday ever since then. Each year a theme is chosen for the month-long celebration. In its first year, the theme was "Ask Us America. We'll Groom You For Success."
