KNOX COUNTY – The average one-way commute time in Knox County was 25.8 minutes prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the 26th highest travel time among Ohio’s 88 counties, an analysis from the insurance website Coverage.com said.

Initial research has shown that the COVID-19 situation has decreased overall travel times because more people are working from home, the report said. The numbers are based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, which was published in December of last year.

Among Knox County commuters, 12% travel more than an hour one way, while 2% of the county’s commuters travel more than 90 minutes each way, Coverage.com said.

As a whole, Ohio posted the 16th shortest average one-way commute time (23.5 minutes) among the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Adams County had the longest average one-way commute time among Ohio counties (37.4 minutes), while residents with the shortest commutes live in Hancock County, where the one-way travel time was just 16.8 minutes.

The average one-way commute time nationwide is 26.6 minutes, the report said.
