2021 Hyundai Ioniq

The Hyundai Ioniq hybrid boasts up to 58 mpg combined city/highway use, and it starts at $23,200. It is available in four trims: Blue, SE, SEL and Limited. It runs on a 1.6-liter, electric/gas hybrid engine with 139 horsepower and 109 pound-feet of torque. It is a hatchback designed with the earth-conscious driver in mind. It makes use of bio-fabrics, recycled plastics and other eco-friendly materials; and backs these up with a three-year warranty. It is also loaded with Hyundai’s SmartSense, a collection of tech features, like forward collision-avoidance assist, to assist the driver with safety issues automatically.

2021 Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius was one of the premiere series for fuel economy; and the 2021 model, starting at $24,525, can get up to 56 mpg combined city/highway use. Starting with the “L Eco,” there are a whopping seven different trims to choose from. It runs on a 1.8-liter, electric/gas engine with 121 horsepower and 120 pound-feet of torque. With the 2021 model, Toyota has expanded the hybrid battery warranty up to 10 years (or 150,000 miles). With the rear seats folded, the Prius can also manage 50.7 cubic feet of cargo space, making it a great choice for a hybrid family vehicle.

2021 Honda Insight

Honda made a name for itself on the U.S. market with fuel efficient cars, and the tradition extends into the hybrid market with the Insight, which starts at $22,930. It comes in an LX, EX or Touring trim. Offering an estimated 48 mpg combined city/highway use, it runs on a 1.5-liter, Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine with 107 horsepower and 99 pound-feet of torque. It comes with Honda Sensing driver assist technology standard on all models. Honda also packs in extra features like walk-away auto-lock, remote system start and an 8-speaker audio system to add a bit of luxury style to the package.

2020 Kia Niro

The Kia Niro is unique in this list as a crossover SUV, and it comes in LX, LXS, Touring, Touring Special Edition and EX Premium models. It starts at $24,590 and offers an estimated 50 mpg combined city/highway use. It runs on a 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder engine with 139 combined horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Designed to provide hybrid economy without sacrificing interior comfort or space, the Niro boasts 100.9 cubic feet of passenger volume and 19.4 cubic feet of cargo space (with the seats up; 54.4 folded down). The interior features like touchscreen display, 6-speaker audio system and Bluetooth connectivity make it a comfy choice for family road trips.
