MOUNT VERNON — Danville Village Council discussed a new technology contract and an alley construction that is up for bid at its meeting Monday.
In the meeting, held in the reopened municipal building, the council moved forward on a contract with Newark-based technology company AlphaLink as part of the ongoing renovation project.
The company submitted a $4,387.50 quote to rewrite and incorporate the village and the police department’s internet cable, according to council meeting minutes. The library’s network is not part of the incorporation and will remain as it is.
AlphaLink submitted a separate monthly quote of $979.50 for services, $140 more than what the village pays its current service provider, InfoLink.
“We don’t necessarily have to go into a (monthly service) contract with this new company,” suggested Mayor Joe Mazzari. “But we can kind of see, for a period of time, whether that’s a year from now, see what kind of service they’re going to offer us during that year’s time.”
Councilmember Patrick Crow echoed this sentiment.
“I’d rather wait on doing the monthly contract until we get some more experience with AlphaLink,” Crow said. “Maybe do some case-by-case basis, see how well they handle it before we commit to $1,000 a month.”
Council voted to purchase the four computers provided by InfoLink. The four, three-year-old computers, including firewall, anti-virus software and internet access point will cost approximately $12,000.
Village Clerk Laurie Vess reminded the council that contracted agencies will likely get priority service over entities that do not have a contract with AlphaLink.
Also concerning contracts, the village is putting the Elm Alley road construction up for bid. The village maintenance crew does not have enough material or the right equipment to properly repave the alley themselves, according to Mazzari.
The village will go to the usual contractors for bid on the job; any new contractor who would like to place a bid can contact Village Administrator Freedom Desich.
The municipal building reopened its doors to the public two weeks ago. The library is still closed to the public but will serve the community in other ways, such as books through the drop-off window.
The building renovations include the new ADA compliant restrooms and better-leveled ground. Other projects such as ADA compliant front doors and the rewiring of cables are still in the works.
Desich presented to the council two Tree City USA road signs awarded to the Village of Danville by the Arbor Day Foundation in May. The village will be putting the two signs up soon in designated locations.
