Donald E. Qualls

MOUNT VERNON — Donald E. Qualls, 81, of Mount Vernon passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at the Knox Community Hospital with his loving family at his side.
He was born Aug. 2, 1938, in Mount Vernon, to the late Orville and Lillie Mae (Wicker) Qualls. Don was employed at Coopers here in Mount Vernon where he retired after 38 years of service. After retiring, Don began working at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County and retired a second time after 15 years of service. He enjoyed bicycling, tinkering out of his workshop and fishing. He was a longtime, faithful member of Faith Baptist Church where he was very active and was a Veteran serving in the United States Navy. But most of all, Don loved the time he spent with his family, especially his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, of nearly 51 years, Linda (Bender) Qualls; his daughter, Pam (Ken) Chambers of Westerville; two sons, Scott Qualls of Mount Vernon, Robert (Crystal) Qualls of Mount Vernon; three grandsons, Tyler Chambers, Arek Chambers, Mason Qualls; his sisters, Ruth (Larry) Walters of Utica, Barbara Pantz of Homer; his sisters-in-law, Joyce (Rusty) Rine of Martinsburg, Lillian Wilburn of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Wilburn; and two sisters, Doris Hickman and Wanda Grueser.
Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 31, from 12-2 p.m. at the Faith Baptist Church, 8764 Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A service will follow, beginning at 2 p.m. with Pastor Doug Forsythe officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council and active duty Sailors, will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
