MOUNT VERNON — A Knox County Jail inmate was indicted for intimidation of witness, a third-degree felony, and assault, a first-degree misdemeanor.
The grand jury indicted Brian Creech, 29, Monday for the assault of another inmate with the intention of intimidating the victim’s girlfriend, who was a witness against Creech in another case.
Creech pleaded guilty to the fleeing and eluding charge in October but filed to change his plea one month later. The court denied Creech’s motion to change his plea in a hearing Tuesday, said McConville.
The victimized inmate was not involved in Creech’s fleeing and eluding case and was in jail for an unrelated charge. Creech apparently took advantage of the situation to try and put pressure on the victim’s girlfriend. The victim has since been released, while Creech is currently still being held at the county jail.
In another case of close proximity, a Mount Vernon man was charged with driving a stolen vehicle, also from Mount Vernon, three days after the car was reported stolen.
James Schaade, 30, was caught at a traffic stop on Sandusky Street Dec. 14 driving a stolen black 2014 Chevrolet Impala, according to McConville.
The officer ran the license plate and discovered that the car was reported stolen in Mount Vernon Dec. 11.
Schaade was indicted for receiving stolen property, a fourth- degree felony.
It is not believed that Schaade was the one who stole the car, but received it from someone else.
