Bulldogs dominate Freddies

HOWARD — The East Knox versus Fredericktown match-up was a lopsided game heavily in favor of the East Knox Bulldogs who beat the Freddies 69-0 in Friday night’s varsity football game.

For the young Freddies, the game proved to be a learning experience that the team will not soon forget for future games.

“Our biggest thing is we have a lot of young kids,” said Fredericktown coach Beau Wolford. “Offensively and defensively, we have quite a few freshman starting both ways. We just have a young squad. They are taking their lumps and learning from a lot of big mistakes and we just have to do a better job of establishing drives and finishing drives.”

The Freddie learning experience and the East Knox complete dominance of the game started in the first quarter with a 36-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kadden Lester to wide receiver Kalvin Gallwitz. Another first half touchdown for the Bulldogs came in the form of a long 62-yard run from running back Caleb Gallwitz, who was a star for the East Knox Bulldogs. The Bulldogs ended up going for two after the run, but the two-point conversion was unsuccessful. These two touchdowns in the first quarter brought the score to 13-0.

In the second quarter East Knox continued its unrelenting aggressiveness with another touchdown by Caleb Gallwitz. Gallwitz’s touchdown run came with 10:36 left in the second quarter and was a 25-yard run.

Gallwitz would go on to score two more touchdowns in the second quarter. The second touchdown came with 6:34 left and was a 20-yard run that brought the score to 27-0. After a fumble recovery with 6:17 left in the half, Gallwitz got his third running touchdown of the quarter with an 8-yard run that brought the score to 34-0. The half ended with yet another East Knox touchdown with a throw from quarterback Kadden Lester to wide receiver Cade Leach. This touchdown happened with 12.7 seconds left in the second quarter and brought the score to 41-0.

In the third quarter the Freddies attempted an onside kick, which bounced into the hands of Luke Grosscup who amazingly returned it for an East Knox touchdown. The touchdown was 47 yards and brought the score to 48-0. The other East Knox touchdowns in the third quarter included an astounding 74-yard touchdown run by Gallwitz and a great 30-yard run by Ian Toller.

The final touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter after a fumbled Freddie punt. This fumbled punt led to a five-yard quarterback keep touchdown by Sam Printz with 8:33 left in the game.

For the East Knox Bulldogs this game was about not being complacent against a young Freddies team.

“I’m really proud about how they came out and played hard,” said East Knox coach Cody Reese. “We’re focusing on getting better each and every week. That’s what I’m most proud of. We can’t get lackadaisical or accept mediocrity. We have to keep pushing ourselves and challenging ourselves to get better each and every week and that’s what I’m proud of.”

The Bulldogs play their next game at Northmor on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The Freddies play their next game at Highland.
