MOUNT VERNON — The Stephen King Book Club will discuss the 1974 horror classic, “Carrie,” on Wednesday, May 1, 6:30 p.m., at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.
Carrie White may be picked on by her classmates, but she has a gift. She can move things with her mind. Doors lock. Candles fall. This is her power and her problem.
Then, an act of kindness, as spontaneous as the vicious taunts of her classmates, offers Carrie a chance to be normal…until an unexpected cruelty turns her gift into a weapon of horror and destruction that no one will ever forget.
Christie Smith, PLMVKC Reference department, will lead the discussion. Copies of the book are available in various formats at the main library or can be reserved and picked up at any branch library.
The program is free and open to the public. Anyone under age 17 must be accompanied by a parent. Refreshments will be served.
