MOUNT VERNON — After 31 years with the U.S. Postal Service, Clerk Paula Coffing is retiring.
Coffing, of Fredericktown, joined the Postal Service in September of 1987 and was a mail carrier her first five years. She then transferred to a clerk position in the post office.
She enjoyed the work, but she has been on light duty the last couple years due to knee and shoulder surgeries (she had a knee replaced and then injured a shoulder in a fall and so has been restricted to lifting no more than 15 pounds) and so she decided it was time to retire.
But she’s not planning to just take it easy in retirement. She will concentrate on her business, the Treasure Chest on Main Street in Fredericktown. She said she has 15 vendors and she likes to refurbish old furniture.
She also has two grandchildren, age four months and four years, who live in Mansfield and she plans to spend some time baby-sitting.
