Theft from elderly man nets 2 indictments

MOUNT VERNON — Two women were indicted on multiple counts of forgery and theft from an elderly person by the Knox County grand jury Monday.

Jennifer S. Tuttle, 41, Willard, was charged with four counts of forgery against a person in a protected class and one count of theft from a person in a protected class.

Amy L. Taylor, 33, of Shelby, was charged with three counts of forgery and one count of theft from a person in a protected class.

All of the charges against both women are felonies of the fourth degree.

The allegedly victim is an elderly man who had offered the two women a place to stay, according to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Christine Williams. The two women are alleged to have stolen his checks then forged and cashed seven of them within an eight-day period of time, totaling approximately $2,400, Williams said.

In this case, the fact that the alleged victim is 65 years old or older, adds the “protected class” label and upgrades the charges to fourth-degree felonies.

Other indictments from Tuesday include:

Theresa L. Daley, 46, Danville, was indicted on two counts of arson, both fourth-degree felonies; Vauna S. Stoutenburgh, 19, Mount Vernon, was indicted on a charge of theft of between $1,000 and $7,500, a fifth-degree felony; Tre M. Spangler, 23, Mount Vernon, was indicted on a charge of theft of between $1,000 and $7,500, a fifth-degree felony; Frances N. Bowling, 36, Mount Vernon, was indicted on a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony;

Jamie L. Parker, 22, Mount Vernon, was indicted for theft, a fifth-degree felony; Michael C. Goines, 35, Mount Vernon, was indicted on a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; James D. Stone, 32, Howard, was indicted on a charge of theft, a felony of the fifth degree; Michael L. Wallace, 31, Gambier, was indicted on two charges of theft and one of passing bad checks, all of which are fifth-degree felonies;

Mary Ann Dales, 39, was indicted on the fifth-degree felony of aggravated possession of drugs and the first-degree misdemeanor of permitting drug use; Wayne A. Ackerman, 54, Fredericktown, was indicted on a charge of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony; Matthew M. Friar, 38, Mansfield, was indicted on charges of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and possessing drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor; Allen D. Wheeler, 53, Mount Vernon, was indicted on felony charges of fifth-degree aggravated possession of drugs and fourth-degree misdemeanor illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia as well as driving under financial responsibility law suspension or cancellation, an unclassified misdemeanor;

Catherine A. Shultz, 29, Marengo, was indicted on charges of the fourth-degree felony of receiving stolen property, operating a vehicle under he influence, a first-degree misdemeanor, and the minor misdemeanor of failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle; Adam P. Taylor, 36, Columbus, was indicted on two charges of gross sexual imposition of a minor, both third-degree felonies, and it was also specified in the indictment that he was a sexually violent predator; Wayne Rittenhouse, 36, Frazeysburg, was indicted on a charge of failure to provide change of address, a felony of the third degree. He had previously been convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with minor, a third-degree felony; Jason B. Crook, 24, was indicted on a charge of failure to provide change of address, a felony of the fourth degree. He had previously been convicted in Licking County of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony.
