MOUNT VERNON — Four dates have been scheduled this year for the Repair Café in Knox County.
Repair Café is the free community activity where people in the area are invited to bring just about anything they want that is lying around their house not working.
Repair volunteers will do their best to fix what is brought in at no charge. Categories for repair are bicycles, computers, wooden items, sewing and electrical items.
The first Repair Café in Mount Vernon saw people bringing in an electric mower, paper shredder, bicycle, sewing repair, vacuum cleaner, and broken cork board on a stand. A good time was had by all as they dove in to repair and thus extended the life of many products.
Repair Café started in the Netherlands in 2009 and spread all over the world. See their website, www.repaircafe.org. Mark Tillack is the local organizer who is on a mission to help the Earth any way he can. Repair Café is a great way to help people and keep items out of the landfill.
The next Repair Café in Knox County will be held from 1-3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church parish hall, on the corner of Gay and High street, in the basement meeting room. A special “how-to” educational repair program will happen from 3-3:30 p.m. for those interested in learning something maybe they didn’t know. Cookies and punch will be available at no charge. Donations welcome.
Repair Café in Knox County will be happening quarterly. The four dates for this year are Feb. 16, May 18, Aug. 1 and Nov. 16.
