Shopping at local small businesses can help save communities in these economically troubled times, and Southside Outdoor Wear is a great place to buy high quality dog food at reasonable prices.
Solomon Raber, the Amish owner of Southside Outdoor Wear, wants local dog owners to know his store is open and they can find quality products there. "We got a dog food out that doesn’t break the bank," Raber told the Mount Vernon News. "It is high quality. It is so convenient. They need to get their mind on that we have something worth driving out here for."
Southside Outdoor Wear is located at 8000 Ridge Road in Fredericktown, two miles outside of the city. The establishment has been selling high quality dog food for decades. Raber boasts that the dog food he sells hasn't experienced a recall since it was introduced in 1926.
Raber's business sells two high quality dog foods: Wholesomes and The Pride Dog Food.
"The Pride would be your basic dog food," Raber told the Mount Vernon News. "That quality is right and the price is right. We are selling a lot of value. You are not buying junk, but you are not breaking the bank either."
The Pride Dog Food is a high calorie, all natural product that's made in the U.S. Located in Ashland, Kentucky, the company has been using the best ingredients for approximately 30 years to make sure dogs enjoy the best nutrition and the best performance possible. "All of our pet foods are manufactured using fixed formulations to ensure maximum consistency and performance," the company said on its website. "We also believe in manufacturing our pet food to order to ensure The Pride Pet Food customers have the freshest pet food available to sell."
Southside Outdoor Wear sells five different variations of the Pride Dog Food: Black Endurance ($24.75), Blue Professional Field ($25.50), Brown Kennel Pak ($24), Purple Maintenance ($23.50) and Teal Puppy Formula ($33). Each type comes in a 50-pound bag.
Wholesomes is a family owned business that dates back to 1926, the company's website said. They, too, make their food in the U.S. The company runs four Midwestern facilities, where they manufacture, test and retest their products to ensure their customers receive only the highest quality pet food.
Wholesomes uses quality meat in their recipes too. "The fish he keeps...it is really good. The lamb is good too," Raber told the Mount Vernon News. "[They are] wheat and soy free."
Raber sells three variations of Wholesomes: chicken/rice ($32), lamb/rice ($35) and fish/rice ($35). All types come in a 40-pound bag.
Shopping at small businesses like Raber's Southside Outdoor Wear are important to the local community because they can provide jobs, which are needed right now during the COVID-19 pandemic, a release issued on Strong Towns said. Not only do they provide jobs, but shopping at small businesses keeps money in the community. This means if a consumer purchases dog food from Raber's store, their money goes right back into paychecks for local employees.
