Kenyon College changes nickname to Owls

Following 6,914 submitted ballots, Kenyon announced its new moniker will be the Owls. The name Owls is inspired by the Kokosing River, a beloved feature of its campus. Kokosing loosely translates to “River of Little Owls” — a tribute to the many species of owls living in our area.

Knox County Symphony to close season May 1

The Knox County Symphony will present its final concert of the season on Sunday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Rosse Hall Auditorium on the campus of Kenyon College. The main portion of the concert is a performance of the Requiem in D Minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, featuring the 90-voice Kenyon Community Choir and four student soloists. In addition, the Knox County Symphony will open the concert with “Nimrod” from the Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar, followed by the third movement from Symphony No. 4 in E Minor by Johannes Brahms.

Kenyon College's Leopoldo López Freedom and Democracy award, created to honor a 1993 graduate of the school, has been bestowed on "Nicaraguans exiled or imprisoned by the ruling regime for their efforts to establish greater democracy in that country," the college announced.
Lords set team record with 12th straight win, sweeping Wabash

The Kenyon College baseball team ran their winning streak to a program-best 12 games with a doubleheader sweep of Wabash College on Sunday. The Lords took game one 5-1 behind Alex Gow’s second complete game of the season. In game two, Kenyon erased an early 2-0 deficit to win 10-4.

Returning to action for the first time since the fall, the Kenyon College men’s and women’s tennis teams were prefect and both squads dominated the DePauw University Tigers, 9-0, during play Sunday, Feb. 6, in the Jasper Tennis Center. The Ladies, ranked first in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) preseason poll, started the romp with the doubles team of Eleni Dakos and Anna Winslow winning 8-1.
Lisa Schott to retire as managing director of the Philander Chase Conservancy

Every journey to Kenyon, characterized by the approach to Gambier Hill through unspoiled rural and agricultural landscapes, owes its signature natural beauty in no small part to Lisa Schott, who since 2010 has served as managing director of the College’s land trust, the Philander Chase Conservancy (PCC). On June 30, 2022, Schott will step down from that position after a nearly 40-year career with Kenyon.

Zavaleta breaks records for Lords, but Kenyon swimmers swept by RedHawks

Coming off a pair of dual wins against Case Western Reserve University and Ohio Northern University, the Kenyon College men’s swimming and diving team traveled to Athens, Ohio to take on Division I Miami (OH) University. The Lords suffered their first dual loss of the season, falling to the RedHawks 183-117, and the Ladies lost their first dual meet of the year, 182.5-117.5. The Lords posted seven individual wins against Miami (OH) highlighted by Israel Zavaleta breaking his own school records in the one- and three-meter diving.
