Excellent pitching and offense lead to 4 straight wins for Loudonville

The Loudonville Redbirds won all four games they played last week, with three of them coming in blowout fashion, to get to 10-9 on the season.

On April 29 the Redbirds squared off with Crestline at home and walked away with a dominant 11-1 victory.

Baylor Weiser hit a double and went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Corbin Donaldson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Judah Layton went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Hunter Polen went five innings, allowing an unearned run, three hits and two walks, while striking out six batters.

They then traveled to Crestline on April 30 and it was another lopsided win for the Redbirds, with Layton belting five hits and driving in four runs to lead Loudonville to a 26-8 win.

Layton had a double and four singles in five trips to the plate, and also walked and scored three times. Donaldson hit a double and a triple, while driving in three RBIs. Josh Serrato, Kayden Cabral and Kiefer Rhodes each doubled in the win. Rhodes drove in four runs in the win for Loudonville.

Layton picked up the win, pitching three innings, allowing four earned runs, five hits and a walk, while striking out five.

On May 1, Loudonville beat Mount Gilead when Matt Sprang hit a two-run double for a walk-off victory.

Layton went 2-for-3 in the win, and other singles were by Dilan Wade, Dakota Wright and Rhodes.

Donaldson went all seven innings, allowing only one hit, one walk and two earned runs, while striking out 10 batters.

Mount Gilead’s lone hit as a single by Kaden St. Clair. Gage Baker pitched well despite losing, going six and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and a walk, and two earned runs, while striking out eight.

The Redbirds ended the week with a 15-1 win over Mansfield Christian on May 2, led by Weiser’s 2-for-3 day. He scored three times and drove in a pair of runs. Sprang went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Layton and Polen each had a single and drove in two runs.

Sprang went all five innings, allowing two hits and an earned run, while striking out nine batters.
