Humphreys homers twice, Weckesser drives in 5 in District Semifinal win for Danville

The Danville Blue Devils knocked Ridgedale out of the playoffs in a 12-2 win in the District Semifinals. | Danville Blue Devils Softball -Ohio

No. 1 Danville had no problem with No. 7 Ridgedale in the District Semifinals of the Division IV, Central 1 tournament, knocking the Rockets off 12-2 in a game where Alicia Humphrey blasted a pair of solo shots.

Ridgedale had a 2-1 lead until the third inning when the Blue Devils went off for five runs. Addison Mickley drilled a two-run single to take a 3-2 lead and Danville never looked back. Addy Bocock followed with an RBI single, and then Emily Weckesser knocked in two runs on an a triple that she was called out at home trying for an inside-the-park homer.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Danville tacked on anther run when Madison Payne scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Weckesser smashed a homer to right field to score Ruby Bartok and Mickley. Two batters later, Humphrey homered to right to go up 11-2. They added a 12th run in the sixth inning when Mickley knocked in a run on an a sacrifice fly.

Danville had 14 hits and was led by Humphrey’s 3-for-4 day with two solo homers and three runs scored. Jaylyn Smith also went 3-for-4 and scored a run. Weckesser was 2-for-3 with a game high five RBIs, and also scored a run. Mickley was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Grace Gronberg struck out 10 over six innings in the win for the Blue Devils. She allowed five hits, four walks and one earned run. 

Danville went on to face No. 3 Mechanicsburg in the District Finals, and while Bocock was her usual fantastic self in the pitching circle, the Indians kept the Blue Devil bats quiet by beating them 2-0.

Bocock went all seven innings, allowing only two runs with one of them earned, and four hits, while striking out 12 in the loss.

The Blue Devils had five hits in the game, with all being singles. Hits went to Humphreys, Sapp, Bartok, Mickley and Maddy Payne.

The Blue Devils ended their season 23-5.
