Logan Eggert put together a fantastic performance at last Saturday’s Fredericktown Invite, winning both the 800 meters and the 1600 metes, and also being part of the meet record setting 4x400 meter relay team.

Eggert’s domination on the track helped lead the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets to first place in the meet, and also earned him the Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week Award.

“Logan is a driven athlete,” said Coach Kathy Thayer. “He conscientiously plans and prepares for all of his races. He has a strong work ethic and puts everything he has into his training.”

Eggert won the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.93, and then won the 1600 meters with a time of 4:36.39. In the 4x400 meters his team won with a time of 3:29.62. Eggert’s personal time in the relay was 52.53.

The 4x400 meter relay time beat the previous meet record of 3:31.92. It was also their best race of the season, besting the time of 3:29.63 they set at the Hank Smith Invitational.

“Logan's goal for the night was to win both the 1600 and 800 races,” Thayer said. “He set a good pace and led both races. He was mentally focused and didn't want to leave anything in the race to chance. He also came back and ran a 52 second split in the 4x400m relay which is a great time after running those two races.”

Earlier in the week in a meet with Ashland, Eggert won the 400 meters with a time of 52.05. He was also third in the 3200 meters with a time of 11:20.98.

Congratulations to Logan Eggert and good luck this week!
