Danville softball bounces back with 3 straight blowout wins

The Danville softball team (10-2, 3-0) bounced back from an uncharacteristic lopsided loss to Notre Dame with three straight wins that were blowouts 

Last weekend was the Mid-Ohio Spring Classic, where the Blue Devils went 2-1 and took fifth place. The first game on April 19 was an 11-0 loss to Notre Dame, where the Blue Devils were no-hit by Gwen Sparks. She allowed only one walk and struck out 12.

On April 20, Danville had the tough task of two games, but they came away big winners with an 9-0 win over Vienna Mathews and an 18-1 victory over Hillsdale. 

Against Viena Mathews, Addy Bocock threw a 12 strikeout, five hit shutout to lead the charge for the Blue Devils. Emily Weckesser had a 3-for-4 day with a homer, three RBIs, and a run scored to pace the offense. Alicia Humphrey also went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Addison Mickley set the tone in the leadoff spot going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs and two steals.

Against the Hillsdale Falcons, Grace Gronberg allowed five hits, an earned run and a walk, while striking out a batter over five innings in the win. She also was a star at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a homer, a walk, four RBIs and a run.

Humphrey went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs. Abi Sapp was 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBIs and a run. Taylor Johnston was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Jaylyn Smith was 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run.

They followed the tournament blowout wins with a 17-1 victory over the Bishop Hartley Hawks on April 22, where Danville went off for 17 hits and Gronberg was once again lights out in the pitching circle.

Gronberg pitched a complete five innings, allowing three hits and an earned run, while striking out seven. She also went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Mickley hit a triple and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Bocock was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Sapp hit a double and had two RBIs in a 1-for-3 day, and Lulu Sheldon went 1-for-2 with a double and a run.
