A Utica, Ohio, resident died in a three-vehicle traffic crash on Jan. 14 in Clay Township, Knox County.
According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol news release, Andrew McGee, 31, of Utica, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the intersection of Township Road 148 and State Route 586. The incident occurred at 5:58 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14.
The release detailed that Kayla Jacobs, 30, of Newark, Ohio, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox northbound on Township Road 148 and State Route 586 in Clay Township. McGee was operating a 2009 Honda Fit eastbound on State Route 586. David Holmes, 54, of Warsaw, Ohio, was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion westbound on State Route 586. The release said that Jacobs' vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the intersection where it was struck by McGee's vehicle. Subsequently, McGee's vehicle traveled left of center and collided with Holmes' vehicle.
McGee was pronounced dead at the scene according to the release. Jacobs and a five-year-old passenger in her vehicle were not injured. Holmes sustained minor injuries and was transported to Knox Community Hospital. All involved parties except McGee were properly restrained during the crash. Alcohol and drug use are not suspected as contributing factors in this incident.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office, Bladensburg Fire Department and EMS assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
