Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) held its autumn commencement ceremony on December 12, celebrating students who completed their degrees and certificates in the summer and autumn semesters of 2025. The event was led by COTC President John M. Berry, PhD, who praised the graduates alongside Provost Greg Ferenchak, EdD. They acknowledged Thomas Comisford, an assistant professor since 1994, as the ceremony's mace bearer.
Rob Montagnese, Chair of the Board of Trustees, addressed the graduates with encouraging words: "Tonight is not an ending," he said. "It’s the beginning of a wonderful opportunity for you to share your talents with your world."
Nicholas Townsend, a graduate with an associate degree in business management technology and six additional business certificates, delivered a keynote speech. Despite facing academic challenges during his studies, Townsend improved his grades significantly with support from academic success coaches and tutors. He is now pursuing a bachelor's degree and aims for a career in supply chain management.
Terry Bertiaux, recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award and a 1984 graduate of COTC's industrial engineering technology program, also spoke at the ceremony. Bertiaux shared insights from his 42-year career with the federal government and encouraged graduates to embrace challenges that teach communication and resilience.
President Berry concluded the event by urging graduates to strive for significance beyond success: "You all have amazing abilities, and your journey has just begun," he said.
COTC is dedicated to providing accessible technical education across its four campuses in Newark, Coshocton, Knox, and Pataskala.
