Voters in Licking and Knox Counties, Ohio, have approved the Mental Health and Recovery Levy. This decision secures essential funding for mental health and addiction services across both counties. The levy accounts for about 40% of the annual budget for the Mental Health & Recovery Board, supporting crisis response services, prevention programs, treatment options, and partnerships with local agencies.
Kay Spergel, Executive Director of the board, said, "This is more than a win on paper — it’s a commitment to saving lives." She emphasized that the vote ensures continuous availability of crucial services like 24/7 crisis support and school prevention programs.
The board expressed gratitude to PAC Chairs, volunteers, partners, and community advocates who worked to inform voters about these services' impact. Rob Montagnese, PAC Chair for Licking County, noted that the outcome reflects community recognition of behavioral health investment's importance. "These funds make it possible for people in crisis to get help when they need it most," he said.
Jen Odenweller, Knox County PAC Chair, highlighted the community's support for mental health as a stand for its people. She mentioned that the levy will continue providing access to life-saving care and support. "We’re thankful to every voter who chose hope, healing, and recovery," she added.
Funds from this levy will sustain various services such as mobile crisis response and behavioral health urgent care. More information on supported programs can be found at www.mhrlk.org.
