MTVarts is set to bring "SpongeBob the Musical Youth Edition" to the Knox Memorial Theatre in Mount Vernon, Ohio. The performances are scheduled from September 12th to 14th, offering evening shows on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM, and matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 PM.
The musical follows SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends as they unite to save Bikini Bottom from an impending volcanic eruption. Bruce Jacklin, Artistic Director for MTVarts, said, "What truly sold me on this show was the music. The kids come alive on stage and are singing songs by some of their - and their parents’ - favorite artists. It’s lively and a ton of fun."
The production features music by well-known artists such as Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., with additional songs by David Bowie. Tina Landau conceived the musical based on Stephen Hillenburg's animated series.
Tickets are priced at $20 for main floor seating and $15 for balcony seats with a $3 discount for children aged 10 and under. A $2 service fee applies at checkout. Tickets can be purchased online at MTVarts.com or at the Mount Vernon Arts Consortium office.
Leading the cast of 44 young actors are Musical Director Kylie Stadler Hoam and Choreographer Tony Ingham. The production team includes Stage Managers Serra Barrett and Chloe Skillman among others.
"SpongeBob the Musical Youth Edition" is presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals. MTVarts is a non-profit community production company that also offers arts education programs.
