Mount Vernon hosts Independence Day celebration with First Friday on a Thursday

Experience Mount Vernon is inviting the community to celebrate Independence Day weekend with a special event, First Friday on a Thursday. The event will take place in Downtown Mount Vernon on July 3, 2025, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. This Red, White, & Blue Party will feature music, food, family activities, and patriotic themes.

Open Road Renewables is presenting the event which promises live entertainment across various locations. "Rock out with New Mother Nature performing from 6:00–7:00 p.m. and 7:45–8:45 p.m." at the Knox County Foundation Public Square Main Stage. Additionally, "the Mount Vernon Community Band" will perform patriotic classics from 7:00–7:30 p.m.

The Knox Foodies Food Truck Trail presented by Ariel Corporation will offer diverse food options with over ten local and regional food trucks. Family-friendly activities include the MVNU Athletics KidZone presented by Gantt Homes and Touch-a-Truck hosted by PAK United along with local fire and police departments.

Street closures for the event begin at 3:30 p.m. on July 3 to ensure safety. Closed streets include Main Street from Chestnut Street to Ohio Avenue among others. Parking is available in public lots along South Mulberry and South Gay Streets.
