Jocelyn Scarbury led the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets to a decisive 9-2 victory over Big Walnut on Friday, delivering an impressive performance with 13 strikeouts and a solo home run.
According to the game report, Big Walnut initially took the lead in the second inning when Madi Clever hit a solo home run. However, Mount Vernon quickly responded in the bottom of the same inning. The Yellow Jackets capitalized on an error by Big Walnut before Rylee Myers delivered a crucial RBI single, putting Mount Vernon ahead 2-1.
Big Walnut managed to tie the game in the fourth inning with a hit from Tessa Intravia. But in the fifth inning, Mount Vernon's offense surged. Brooke Dovenbarger hit a three-run home run, giving Mount Vernon a 5-2 lead. Scarbury followed with her own solo home run, further extending their advantage.
The sixth inning saw additional contributions from Harley Styndl and Hailey Rudrick, who each hit home runs, solidifying Mount Vernon's commanding lead.
