Scarbury dominates circle, delivers at the plate as Jackets power past Big Walnut

Jocelyn Scarbury led MV  to a decisive 9-2 victory over Big Walnut on Friday, delivering an impressive performance with 13 strikeouts and a solo home run.

According to the game report, Big Walnut initially took the lead in the second inning when Madi Clever hit a solo home run. However, Mount Vernon quickly responded in the bottom of the same inning. The Yellow Jackets capitalized on an error by Big Walnut before Rylee Myers delivered a crucial RBI single, putting Mount Vernon ahead 2-1.

Brooke Dovenbarger hit a three-run home run, giving Mount Vernon a 5-2 lead. Scarbury followed with her own solo home run, further extending their advantage.

The sixth inning saw additional contributions from Harley Styndl and Hailey Rudrick, who each hit home runs, solidifying Mount Vernon's commanding lead.

Scarbury's pitching was dominant throughout the game. Over seven innings, she allowed only three hits and two runs—one of which was earned—while striking out 13 batters. Her performance exemplified her skill both as a pitcher and batter.

MV recorded 12 hits overall. Dovenbarger contributed significantly with three RBIs and two hits. Carly Kennedy had an impressive day at bat with three hits out of four attempts, while Rudrick and Grace Bates also added multiple hits.
