Knox County Indivisible has announced a rally scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at 1 p.m. in Mount Vernon Public Square. This will be followed by its first public organizing meeting at 2 p.m.
According to Knox County Indivisible, the event will address concerns about economic pressures and policy impacts, focusing on unfulfilled commitments to workers and retirees. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs that illustrate how issues such as inflation, healthcare access, and small business challenges are personally affecting them. Knox County Indivisible was established in March 2025 as part of the broader Indivisible network, which has been promoting civic involvement and peaceful advocacy since 2017. The local chapter was created in response to increasing concerns about democratic stability, economic fairness, and transparency in government.
"We’re seeing economic pressure mount on everyday people while billionaires get tax breaks," said Meg Galipault, a Knox County Indivisible organizer. "This event is about giving people a voice and reminding elected officials who they’re supposed to serve." Galipault further said that "this administration promised to protect workers," but added that "the only thing we’ve seen protected are profits."
Indivisible is described as a national grassroots movement that began with a guide to resisting Trump’s agenda and evolved into a network of thousands of local groups working towards a more inclusive and representative democracy. Through advocacy, elections, and coordinated action, Indivisible members organize locally and nationally to challenge right-wing influence, support progressive policies, and strengthen democratic systems. The organization supports this work through three branches: Indivisible Project (501c4), which leads advocacy efforts; Indivisible Civics (501c3), which offers resources and training; and Indivisible Action (Political Action Committee), which helps elect progressive candidates.
Knox County Indivisible is characterized as a nonpartisan grassroots group focused on strengthening democratic systems, promoting equity, and ensuring fair governance. Open to residents within and beyond Knox County, the organization brings together individuals and partners aligned with progressive goals. Members advocate for inclusive policies aiming to influence change through civic engagement and collaboration.
